Few pictures with iPhone 13 from the Köyliö.

Sun was just about to settle in when I was walking my dog and there were a bit mist in the air too.

This was taken very late in the evening, but as the iPhone 13 has great camera and snow in the ground reflects the light, it luminated these threes so surreal for the night time.

Same three trees in the morning, just before sun rises above the horizon, but different angle too.

This is the same birch alley that I posted in my Roadscape.photography blog.

Driving in Twilight

Today was my "first" drive from my new house to work. As I left from home the sun was about to rise above horizon. The stage of sunrise known as false sunrise actually occurs before the Sun truly reaches the horizon because Earth's atmosphere refracts the Sun's image. At the horizon, the average amount of refraction is 34 arcminutes, though this amount varies based on atmospheric conditions.

Also, unlike most other solar measurements, sunrise occurs when the Sun's upper limb, rather than its center, appears to cross the horizon. The apparent radius of the Sun at the horizon is 16 arcminutes.

These two angles combine to define sunrise to occur when the Sun's center is 50 arcminutes below the horizon, or 90.83° from the zenith.

New domain attached

I had a plans for this blog for a long time and I wanted to have a unique domain for this and as my other blog, Roadscape.photography, I wanted to this have the same kind of branding, -scape brand.

Sadly cloudscape.photography was taken by shady LLC, that just parked that domain. So no worth trying to see what's on that website.

As I wondered what would be okay with this, Godaddy suggested cloudscapes.photography and even thought it had that plural in the scape, it does fit with this blog quite well, since this is mostly about clouds, in plural. One can argue that I could have used cloudsscape.photography, but that double s in the middle of the name isn't good.

What about my title? Sky is my canvas.

Well, .com was taken too.

Oh, shit. skyismycanvas.photography is free!

Well, not any more.

This photo kind of puts two things together. Roadscape and Cloudscapes.

Sun pillars

Sun pillars are beams of light that extend upward from the sun. Pillar itself is atmospheric optical phenomenon which is created by the reflection of light from tiny ice crystals that are suspeneded in the atmosphere or that comprise high-altitude clouds.

This was taken in mid February 2022, in Loimaa.

I got there just at the right time! Sun pilar had just aligned with the road and I got out of my car and took this.

Dawn of the sunrise

Well, I was walking to the work this morning and the sun was about to rise. This gave a gorgeous clouds in the sky. I mean almost like a breathtaking gorgeous. This was about 30 minutes before the actual sunrise moment, the moment at which the upper limb of the Sun appears tangent to the horizon.

The street near me didn't have a good spot to take a photo, but I knew that when I got to the overpass, there would be kind of a good spot to take a photo. So, I just took these as a progress. Also There was a moon in the sky in the opposite direction I took a photo of that too, since that chimney was so purple.

I know that is kind of potato, but these were taken with Apple iPhone 13 mini, which is much better than my previous iPhone 7.

Few 5x zoom with the iPhone. And a few minutes later I was on the overpass and I captured these:

I actually had to walk back a bit to take this panorama as I had walked pass the Highway 9 that this over pass goes over.

Noctilucent clouds

Noctilucent clouds, or night shining clouds, are tenuous cloud-like phenomena in the upper atmosphere of Earth. They consist of ice crystals and are only visible during astronomical twilight. Noctilucent roughly means "night shining" in Latin. They are most often observed during the summer months from latitudes between ±50° and ±70°. Too faint to be seen in daylight, they are visible only when the observer and the lower layers of the atmosphere are in Earth's shadow, but while these very high clouds are still in sunlight. Recent studies suggest that increased atmospheric methane emissions produce additional water vapor once the methane molecules reach the mesosphere – creating, or reinforcing existing noctilucent clouds.

They are the highest clouds in Earth's atmosphere, located in the mesosphere at altitudes of around 76 to 85 km.

Long time from last time

This use to be my blog where IFTT posted what I posted on my now deleted Instagram with tag Sky is my canvas. Now I thought I just start to post straight to here when I encounter something worth while.

So here are few photos from past... I don't really know.

That's from February 2020. Nahkalinna's dam.

Sun had just settled in, in November 2020.

Milkyway from "my backyard", which is roughly 100 meter away park from my own yard.
